Day wise itinerary:

Day 1:

Arrive Las Vegas

An entertainment oasis surrounded by desert, with a reputation almost as big as the fortune's many have made (and lost) here, Sin City is a place unlike any other. The entertainment capital of the world, Vegas is famed for its glittering casinos, all you can eat buffets and shotgun weddings ordained by none other than Elvis himself! After settling in to your hotel and meeting up with your Travel Director this afternoon, the bright lights and lively antics of Vegas will undoubtedly lure you in. Take a walk down the Strip, where the city's finest hotels and grandest casinos can be found, or head over to the Downtown area to explore the artsy Fremont East district.

Hotel - Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino

Day 2:

Las Vegas – Flagstaff (2 Nights)

Are you ready to get your kicks on Route 66? If the answer is yes, today's the day of your tour to do so! Heading east, you'll take your place in road tripping history as you cruise down the most iconic road in the United States. Along the way, you'll stop off in the famous towns of Kingman and Seligman, known as the “Birthplace of Historic Route 66”, for a glimpse of all things Americana, complete with classic motels, kitsch petrol pumps and steaming slices of apple pie. Arrive in Flagstaff and rest up before tomorrow's full-day excursion to see the extraordinary landscapes of the Grand Canyon.

Hotel - Days Hotel by Wyndham

Day 3:

Grand Canyon Excursion

Nothing can quite prepare you for your first glimpse of the Grand Canyon. One of the world's 7 natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage site, it's estimated to be around 2 billion years old, with a layer of rock at the bottom of the canyon said to be some of the oldest exposed rock on the planet. Take your time exploring the incredible geology of the land, or to make your visit extra special, why not treat yourself to an Optional Experience^ that could see you flying in an aircraft over the North and South rims. Feeling distinctly in awe you'll then visit the Grand Canyon Village, which boasts some impressive national historic landmarks and historical buildings.

Day 4:

Flagstaff – Lake Powell – Page

Start your day with a stop at Wupatki National Monument, a landscape dotted with over 2700 pueblo ruins built by the ancestors of the Hopi, Zuni and Navajo people. Driving on through the Painted Desert, named for its rainbow of colourful sedimentary layers stretching some 418 kilometers into the horizon, you'll then arrive at sparkling Lake Powell. America's second largest man made reservoir and something of a mirage in an otherwise landlocked desert. Tonight, you'll spend the evening in the Arizonan city of Page.

Hotel - Quality Inn View of Lake Powell - Page

Included Meals - Iconic Breakfast

Day 5:

Page – Horseshoe Bend – Monument Valley – Kayenta

Giving the term ‘iconic' a whole new meaning, Horseshoe Bend is first up on today's roll call of phenomenal sites. Carving a perfect horseshoe shape through the 366 m sandstone cliffs, test your nerve as you peak over the edge before heading on to explore Monument Valley in an open air-vehicle. Immortalised as the setting for countless movies and TV shows, Monument Valley is an emblem of the wild west, with its rusty red spindles and grand buttes thrusting 366 m skyward from the barren valley below. Named the ‘Valley Between the Rocks' by the Navajo people who have lived here for centuries, you'll likely feel very small and insignificant as you learn about the geology and history of the area.

Hotel - Kayenta Monument Valley Inn

Included Meals - Breakfast

Day 6:

Kayenta – Four Corners – Mesa Verde National Park – Durango

The first stop of today will see you standing in the exact spot where Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico meet at Four Corners, before heading on to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Mesa Verde National Park. Home to the Pueblo people for over 700 years, Mesa Verde protects nearly 5000 archeological sites including 600 cliff dwellings, and offers a fascinating glimpse into Native American history. Not done with historical insight just yet, you'll then finish today in the old Colorado mining town of Durango, which boasts tasteful hotels, lovely tree lined streets and Victorian-era saloons reminiscent of the town's wild west history.

Hotel - Durango Downtown Inn

Day 7:

Durango – Silverton – Moab (2 Nights)

Before you depart Durango, railway fans can opt to board a traditional coal-fired locomotive to explore the remote wilderness in style. Afterwards, it will be all eyes to the horizon today as you make the spectacular drive through the San Juan Mountains, passing wildflower meadows and majestic peaks as you soak in some of the most glorious nature in all of the United States. Stopping in Silverton to meet the rest of your group, make a beeline for Empire, formerly known as Blair Street, which was once notorious for brothels and boozy establishments during the silver rush period. Journeying on, you'll pass through Ouray (pronounced you-ray), a little town sandwiched between towering peaks, before arriving into Moab, Utah's adventure capital. Surrounded by rugged, rusty red canyons, this place is basically a pilgrimage for mountain bikers and hikers alike looking to escape civilisation in the otherworldly landscapes.

Hotel - Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott

Day 8:

Arches National Park and Free Time

Another day, another icon, this time courtesy of Arches National Park. Over 2500 naturally formed sandstone arches cover the landscape here, more than anywhere else on earth. After seeing them for yourself, standing in absolute amazement the one question you'll likely be asking, is ‘how?'. A highlight of the park and the most photographed of all the sites, is Delicate Arch. Standing 60 feet (18 metres) tall and in stark contrast to the horizontal planes surrounding it, this natural wonder is one of the enduring symbols of the American West.

Included Meals - Breakfast

Day 9:

Moab – Canyonlands National Park – Dead Horse Point State Park – Goblin Valley State Park – Torrey

Strong coffee and a big breakfast are the two requirements this morning to prepare for another action packed day of sightseeing on your USA canyon tour. First up is Canyonlands, Utah's largest national park that boasts sky high canyons, deep craters and majestic buttes, forming a surreal landscape. Stopping by the ‘Island in the Sky' mesa for spectacular views and sheer sandstone cliffs, you'll then travel on to Dead Horse Point, another soaring mesa that sits 610 metres above the Colorado River and is one of the most photographed vistas in the world. From one bizarrely named place to the next, you'll continue on to the colourful and wonderful Goblin Valley State Park, where sandstone goblins and twisted formations create a striking resemblance to the surface of Mars. After an enthralling day, you'll spend the night relaxing in the quiet town of Torrey.

Hotel - Broken Spur Inn

Included Meals - Breakfast

Day 10:

Torrey – Capitol Reef National Park – Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument – Bryce Canyon National Park (2 Nights)

Named the ‘Land of the Sleeping Rainbow' by Native Americans, Capitol Reef's colourful landscapes, towering domes and slot canyons will be your first port of call today. It's here you'll also find Waterpocket Fold, a 160 kilometer long crack in the earth's crust that's well worth a look. Driving along Byway 12, we challenge you to drag your eyes away from the windows as you twist and turn through Dixie National Forest, with soaring ponderosa pines stretching into the distance as far as the eye can see. As if the sights couldn't get any better, you'll then stop off at the 260 million year old Grand Staircase, named for its uniquely striped layers of rock, before finishing yet another spectacular day amidst the sunset coloured spires of Bryce Canyon.

Hotel - Bryce View Lodge

Included Meals - Breakfast

Day 11:

Bryce Canyon National Park and Free Time

Have we saved the best till (almost) last? That will be the question on everyone's lips as you venture into Bryce Canyon National Park, where repeated freezes and thaws of the park's soft sandstone and limestone landscape over millions of years, have created the fascinating formations you'll find here. Stand in amazement in front of the multicoloured ‘hoodoos' and vast amphitheatres, then take a stroll along one of the many juniper lined trails to the viewpoints hugging the rim of the Paunsaugunt Plateau.

Included Meals - Breakfast

Day 12:

Bryce Canyon – Zion National Park – Depart Las Vegas

Travelling back to Vegas today you'll make one final stop at Zion National Park. Marvel at the soaring red and white cliffs and vast canyons that stand in stark contrast to the soft wildflower meadows and hanging gardens that can also be found here, as a result of the park's lower elevation in comparison to the others. Travelling along the Virgin River Gorge for your final drive, you'll no doubt be feeling reflective about the incredible sights and experiences you've witnessed over the past 12 days. Your trip will come to an end at McCarran International Airport, or at Rio All-Suites Hotel for those extending their stay in Sin City.

Included Meals - Breakfast

More great optional sighsteeing experiences for you to choose from.

Arrive Athens

Welcome to Athens, Greek adventurers! The clock starts now on uncovering this ancient country and all its quirks. We're calling it now, that this trip is THE ancient history lovers dream. Settle in to your hotel before catching up with the crew, where a traditional Athens affair is on the cards for those wanting to get straight down to the business of being cultural. On our optional dinner we'll head to the city's old town and dinner, traditional dancing as you feast your eyes (and stomach) with mouthwatering Greek tastes, under the watchful eye of the Acropolis to complete the scene. We can't think of a better way to get right into the Greek way of life.

Hotel - Arion Hotel (or similar)

Day 2:

Athens to Olympia Via Corinth, Mycenae and Nafplio

Athens

Not a second of today will go to waste. Europe’s oldest city will unfold itself this morning as we take to the Parthenon and the Acropolis with the knowledge of a local, then explore the first modern Olympic Stadium from the 1896 Games. That's some really old Olympic vibes right there.

Corinth

Rugged mountains, cypress trees and citrus groves will pepper our pretty tour from Athens to Corinth, where we will stop to get a look at a man-made canal that squeezes ships through its tight cliffs in what seems like an impossible feat.

Mycenae

What was once a military hotspot is now a jaw-dropping archaeological site amidst the mountain ranges of Greece. Our Trip Manager will uncover the 4,000 year history of Mycenae and Agamemnon’s Palace in a tale of heroics, myths and curses.

Nafplio

We make a short stop at the cute coastal town of Nafplio i.e the first capital of Greece. Let's grab some lunch (gyros, anyone?) and take a stroll through the ancient city. Next up - the wispy mountains of Arcadia to Olympia. Save some room on your camera roll for this one...

 Olympia

And so the historical uncoverings continue as we land in Olympia, the place where the Olympic Games were birthed, and what is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Hotel - Amalia Olympia Hotel (or similar)

Day 3:

Olympia to Delphi

Olympia

Fun fact: the first Olympic Games was held in 776BC, let's just let that number sink in for a moment...Wow. Today our Local Guide will show us all the important sites of those games, giving you the chance to sit in the 45,000 seat stadium where it actually first took place. If that's not a spine-tingling moment, we don't know what is. We'll wrap it up at the Temple of Hera (Queen of the Greek Gods), and place where the Olympic flame is lit every four years. We'll also visit the ruins of Zeus' temple before we head off on our journey, where you'll be sure to feel the vibes of one of the most well known Greek gods.

Delphi

The sacred lands of Delphi will be ours this afternoon, again allowing us the chance to uncover world history right here in Greece. Despite being a place of monumental importance, it happens to have a cute little bar scene, and is a great place to sample the national drink of ouzo.

Hotel - Amalia Delphi Hotel (or similar)

Day 4:

Delphi to Athens

Delphi

Through the limestone columns of the Sanctuary of Apollo, we continue tapping into what was once the centre of the universe for Ancient Greeks. The remains of this Doric style building stands tall with it's remaining 6 (out of an original 15) pillars, and is the perfect spot to absorb the last bit of beauty that is the slopes of Mt. Parnassus before we jump on the trail back to Athens.

Athens

Welcome back to the heart of ancient Greece! Arriving in time for dinner, we'll enjoy an included meal together tonight before our island adventures begin tomorrow.

Hotel - Dorian Inn hotel (or similar)

Day 5:

Athens to Mykonos

Athens

After breakfast we have a free morning to enjoy Athens as you like, as well as an included walking tour of the sights. Our time in Athens was amazing and well worth delaying our island time for. But delay it further? We shall not...

Let's do this! 3 nights on the island of Mykonos, how did we get so lucky? Even the boat ride across the Aegean will have you awe struck and in love.

Hotel - Paradise Beach (Superior Rooms)

Day 7:

Hotel - Paradise Beach (Superior Rooms)

Day 8:

Mykonos

This morning, let's spare a thought for all those travellers who only have the time to visit just one Greek Island. Those poor unfortunate souls...

Santorini

Saddle up! We're taking to the seas again, this time in search of the island of Santorini. It's finally your turn to be the one lulling about the white-washed blue dome churches looking like a sultry summer babe.  Home to the famous Oia sunset, this is the stuff dreams are made of. Ah, life.

Hotel - Okeanis Hotel (or similar)

Day 9:

Santorini

Rise and shine, Greek Island travellers! The island of Santorini will not explore itself. Take a swim at Perissa Beach, eat the local specialty of fried tomato balls known as domatokeftedes, and roam the streets of Fira.

Hotel - Okeanis Hotel (or similar)

Day 10:

Santorini

The beautiful thing about having two full days on the one island is you have time to both relax and explore. Whatever you didn't do yesterday is still up for grabs today. If you feel like you've crammed it all in already, just head to the black or red sand beaches and spend another glorious day ocean-side. Just remember to plan your day around the excursion to the iconic sunset of Oia - this is not an optional you're going to want to miss.

Hotel - Okeanis Hotel (or similar)

Day 11:

Santorini to Athens

Santorini

It's our last full day on trip - best hit up a big city we know and love and cause a little harmless havoc. Goodbye Santorini you sun soaked beauty, we're off to Athens.

Athens

On arrival in Athens, tick off any last sightseeing you missed in this time capsule of a city tonight.

Hotel - Dorian Inn hotel (or similar)

Day 12:

Depart Athens

And just like that, it's time for the goodbyes. As sad as they are, at least you have the memories. And another 300 Contiki trips to jump aboard! Make the most of your last free breakfast before you kick on to your next port of call.
