In addition to the chance to enjoy the village’s range of amenities and attractions, you will enjoy some marvellous wintertime activities, including a nature walk with the option to try snow-shoeing and a horse and carriage ride. With the chance to ride the GoldenPass train to lakeside Montreux on an optional excursion, this is picture-postcard perfection.

HOTEL ROC ET NEIGE, CHATEAU-D'OEX

This welcoming hotel stands in the heart of the mountain village of Château-d'Oex. 

Facilities & Amenities : The hotel has a comfortable lounge area with a bar, as well as a restaurant that serves food made mainly from local produce. The hotel also has a sauna, and outside there is a large terrace with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. 

Rooms : The bedrooms are cosy, and each has private facilities, a hairdryer, TV and free Wi-Fi. There is a safe deposit box at reception.

Hotel transfers time : The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately two hours.

Itinerary Changes : Please note, winter activities are of course weather and snow-dependent. We reserve the right to provide substitute activities/transfers to alternate venues should weather conditions available necessitate this. Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Special requuirements : If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Combining hotel transfers : We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Disabled access : The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Day 1 : Fly to Switzerland

Fly to Geneva, meet your tour manager and make the scenic transfer by coach to Château-d'Oex and your hotel, travelling along the shore of Lake Geneva before heading up to your beautiful holiday base. Settle in and get to know your surroundings, and depending upon your time of arrival, wrap up warm to take a stroll through the village before dinner.

Day 2 : Guided nature walk through a wintry landscape

By way of introduction to the beautiful Pays-d'Enhaut ‘high country’ region, don snowshoes if you wish (and the weather permits!) to join a delightful guided nature walk through the surrounding forests and pastures of the beautiful valley. Your guide will keep a look out for signs of winter wildlife, as the snowy landscape makes it easier to spot the tracks of local squirrels, foxes, rabbits, badgers and deer. Keep your eyes peeled and ears opened for the familiar sound of woodpeckers in the surrounding trees and enjoy uncovering the local flora and fauna with our local expert guide.

Back in the village, which has been a favourite of Newmarket guests for over 30 years, there’s a trio of fascinating museums that chronicle life in this corner of Switzerland, the history of cheese-making, and, thanks to the village’s world renown as a hot-air-balloon centre, the magnificent men (and women) and their flying baskets! (payable locally). Bars, restaurants, shops, and a warm welcome from friendly locals complete a perfect holiday picture.

After a first wonderful day, enjoy dinner in the hotel.

Day 3 : Horse and Carriage ride

After breakfast today, board the coach to make the short journey to nearby Saanen, a pretty little village close to larger ski resort Gstaad. Here, you’ll enjoy the exhilarating experience of a horse and carriage ride through the wintry landscape, before enjoying a warming lunch of traditional fondue – after all, cheese-making Gruyères lies nearby. Return to Château-d'Oex for the rest of the day.

Day 4 : At Leisure or optional visit to lakeside Montreux by GoldenPass Train

Today brings an opportunity to enjoy the delights of Château-d'Oex, or to board the GoldenPass Train and join an optional excursion to the Lake Geneva resort of Montreux. Travel down through the slumbering vineyards of the Valais, to the fashionable watering hole with its elegant shops, cafés and restaurants. A shore-side promenade leads to iconic Château Chillon, amongst Switzerland’s most photographed landmarks, while across the lake, on fine days, the jagged, snow-capped peaks of the Dents du Midi mountain range are an arresting sight.

After a pleasant few hours, return to Château-d'Oex for a special evening, during which all guests can join a fun torch-lit walk through the village, ending with a glass of warming vin chaud.

Day 5 : An optional taste of cross- country skiing and visit to Glacier 3000

Adding immeasurably to the fun of your stay, today brings a chance to try cross-country skiing on an optional excursion under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor. Swish along the pre-carved tracks enjoying the beauty of the surrounding scenery.  

In addition, you may wish to be whisked by cable car to Glacier 3,000 where you can walk out on to the glacier. The views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains are breath-taking and there’s a host of activities at the peak should you wish to partake – including the Tissot Peak Walk at 3,000 metres above sea level.  

Day 6 : Fly back to UK

Bid farewell to your Alpine idyll, returning to Geneva Airport for the return flight back to the UK, after a wonderful wintertime adventure.
